Third Grade Math

Third graders are conquering standards in math.  We have been working on fluently adding and subtracting with in 1000.  Not only do the students need to be able to accurately perform the operations, but they should also be able to explain why their algorithm works.

The students have been playing partner games, solving journal problems, using apps, and completing assignments to help them master important skills.  Two of our favorite partner games were Close to 100 (although we played to 1000 with 6 cards) and Almost to 0 in 5 Rolls.  If you click on the game title, it will take you to the directions so you can play at home.  However, be warned, these students play to win!  Next up for these brilliant third graders is multiplication and division.

In the SeeSaw posts, the students explain two different ways to subtract across zeros.  Their explanations really show a high level of understanding.  If you are not connected to your child's digital learning journal on SeeSaw, please contact me!  We want you connected.
