Second graders are working hard at their place value standards. The students have been playing partner games, solving journal problems, using apps, and completing assignments to help them master important skills. Numbers with in 1000s watch out, these second graders are crushing it! Below are a few of the big standards we are working on.
The standard that has been the most difficult to master is skip counting with in 1000. The students are good at traditional skip counting; however, it poses more of a challenge to start at different numbers. For example, count by tens starting at 452. The student would then count 452, 462, 472, etc. Further, this skill is even more challenging when students are asked to skip count backwards. This is an easy skill to practice at home. Any extra time in a car or doctors office, practice skip counting!
