The Reading Rainbow app/subscription has a ton of fairy tales and fractured fairy tales on their "Action Adventure & Magical Tales" island. Because we have been doing fairy tales in class, the children have all filled their virtual backpacks with different tales. Exciting news, Reading Rainbow is currently developing a classroom version of their app. We are lucky enough to be piloting some of their lesson ideas. Today, each group of four children choose the same fairy tale to read. They listened to the book and then had a small group discussion of each tale. As a group, they charted the elements of fairy tales that we have been discussing (see previous post).
After each group had discussed their fairy tale and made their chart of the elements, they presented their findings to the class. They also gave their opinion on the books and whether they would recommend them to a friend. Their high recommendations have started a reading frenzy! The children can't get enough of the action adventure and magical tales!
