Africa

This week our fantastic flying journey took us to Africa.  Since the students already "stamped out" their inquiry questions before our continent study, they knew exactly the information they were looking for.  We learned Africa has large chunks of land in all four hemispheres.  There are 54 different countries in Africa.  So much learning!  In fact, I was trying to chart their learning and I could not keep up with their research.  Some students decided not to wait for me.  They started adding facts about African animals and culture on post its and put it on our class chart.  I love these researchers.  When the students wrote in their passport books, the facts were as varied as their creative minds.

In addition to our reading and research, we watched some great videos on African animals and we learned an African game called Mancala.  The students really had to think about strategy while playing the game.  Mancala is a great two player thinking game that you can find at Target or click here for an Amazon link.  Look at the concentration.
